EQUINE PHOTOSHOOT PREP GUIDE

I know you love your horse clean and tidy or covered in mud, but for me to create jaw dropping images that you are going to fall in love with, doing a little prep the day before goes along way to ensuring stunning images you will be desperate to hang on your walls.

To be able to capture some really special images your horse needs to be looking their best.  Imagine you are off to a show and you want to win best turned out.

PREPARATION IS KEY.

Prepare your horse -  Your horse must be DRY and clean.  Bathing is not necessary unless your horse is covered in mud and should be carried out the day before and not on the photoshoot day.  Minimal removal of stable stains can be done early in the morning the day of the photoshoot.  Wet patches on horses do not photograph well!  Groom your horse well and apply hoof oil.  During winter sessions, do have clean light weight rugs handy to keep your horse warm in between.  Keep brushes handy for the session to keep your horse shiny.

Prepare your tack - A clean bridle and leather headcollar will help to show off your horses beauty.  These should be cleaned the day before, especially if you have a light coloured horse such as a grey or palomino horse, so the tack doesn't mark your horse.

YOU ARE JUST AS IMPORTANT.

As part of the bespoke service I provide along with the Style Guide you will have received, we will have already spoken in great detail on the outfit choices you will be wearing on the day.

The day before prepare your outfits and yourself.  You want to look your best self, but also feel comfortable. I would recommend you prepare yourself as you would going to an important event. Hands can be featured in some of the close up images, so a little moisturiser and nail varnish, if you wear it, can also help to elevate your images.

THE PHOTOSHOOT.

Other than not turning out, please do follow your horses daily routine prior to the shoot in regards to feeding times.  It can be helpful to have some food snacks around just in case we need them, but please keep these hidden until called for.  I would also recommend having an assistant on hand to help get those ears forward.

It would be my absolute pleasure to photograph you and your horse, to capture that special bond you have together and make a forever memory.
