To create a photograph using lighting techniques inspired by the old masters in a painterly style.

The use of light in a photograph can be used to show off the subject and help create feel and emotion to the image. If done in the right way, it can draw the viewer in, stop and take a moment to enjoy the image.

I am very drawn to images with minimal distraction from the subject, I like darker moody images where the subject pops out at you and I feel an emotional connection. This is something which I think shows in my work. Whether I am photographing a horse or a dog, I always like them to take centre stage, to show off either their grace and beauty, focus and intelligence.

When I photograph a horse, I will use natural light coming in through the entrance of a barn or stable doorway to highlight the horse and to provide contrast and debt to the subject.

For photographing dogs I create my own light, where I have more control of the placement and type of light on the dog. I do this by using an off camera flash.

Portrait photography requires no movement from the subject, the subject is captured in a variety of poses that compliment their personality and presence. The poses will be standing, sitting and lying down for dogs, and a variety of different angles for horses. Photographing animals does have its challenges, but this is why you are hiring me, an experienced professional equine and canine photographer who creates images these like below.
